What to Expect at Your Microneedling Treatment

Before Microneedling Treatment

We start with a consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for microneedling, which most people are. At this consultation we review the process, and before and after requirements.

During Microneedling Treatment

We always apply numbing cream before we begin the treatment to ensure your comfort for the entire process. The treatment is surprisingly very comfortable.

After Microneedling Treatment

Immediately after treatment your skin will likely be pink or red and will look and feel like you have a sunburn. The redness and heat start fade after a few hours and continue to fade over the next 24-48 hours. Day two you might still be a bit pink and blotchy. Day 3 you should look like nothing ever happened.

If you opt to add exosome therapy into your treatment they will be applied at the time of treatment. Exosomes significantly reduce the time it takes for the redness to go away, they increase the amount of collagen your skin will make from the microneedling and they keep your skin more hydrated and less tight feeling during your two day healing time. What Are Exosomes?

Exosomes are little vesicles secreted by our cells that carry useful bioactive protein components like human growth factors, cytokines, lipids, mRNA, and miRNA from one cell to another cell (target cells) to help the target cells in maintenance, repair and regeneration. Think of them as little packages full of goodies that travel to the cells offering a list of ingredients that cell may need to help the cell grow, repair, restore and thrive! Exosomes enhance cell to cell communication and give the target cell what it needs to function at it’s best.

As we age, our own stem cells become less active, leading to reduced renewal and regeneration capabilities, resulting in signs of aging like thinning skin and hair loss. Microneedling FAQ

What Microneedling device does Vitality Laser Clinic use and why did we choose this one?

Your safety is our top priority, which is why we exclusively use the “SkinPen” by Crown Aesthetics. This automated microchanneling device, available only to medical professionals, utilizes sterile microneedle cartridges that cannot be reused, creating approximately 3 million micro-injuries per treatment. This eliminates the risk of unintended trauma to the tissue, reducing the potential for scarring, redness, or hyperpigmentation. Many other devices cannot make the same claims.

In Canada, SkinPen Precision is the sole microneedling device approved for the treatment of medical conditions such as Melasma, acne scarring, and surgical scarring. The SkinPen is both FDA and Health Canada approved.

Which body parts can be treated with Microneedling?

This minimally invasive treatment can be used all over the body—literally from your head to your toes!

How many microneedling treatments will I need to see results?

The number of procedures required will be estimated is based upon your individual procedure goals and the initial health of your skin. For anti aging and toning treatments we typically recommend a minimum of 3 procedures spaced about 4 weeks apart, sometimes more depending on the condition of your skin. For scarring we typically recommend starting with 6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart. At your consultation we will develop a treatment plan specific to your needs and rejuvenation goals.

When will I see the results?

You may notice healthier looking skin immediately, within the first 2 weeks. However, the natural repair process of your skin continues to progress over the course of several weeks to months. Your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months following your final session.

Is there any recovery time associated with Microneedling?

The first few hours after treatment your skin may look and feel red and hot similar to a fresh sunburn. This typically fades within the first 8-24 hours. Most redness should be resolved and the skin returned to it’s pre-procedure appearance within 48 hours. Because microneedling is also very exfoliating your skin may flake and slough in certain areas for a few days after the procedure.

To minimize your downtime and increase the amount of collagen and elastin production, add on exosomes to your treatment. A helpful hint… Book your Microneedling treatment for late in the day and sleep through the worst of the redness.

Can I wear sunscreen and make-up immediately following the procedure?

The science says no. The microchannels should be allowed to heal and close up completely before applying topical products. It’s best to let the micro-channels close up and let your skin settle for 48 hours before introducing any products not approved by SkinPen.

Normal skincare and makeup regimen can continue after the first 48 hours following their Microneedling procedure depending on the area and type of procedure performed.

Are there risks or side effects with Microneedling treatments?

Microneedling is considered safe for most people who are in overall good health. The procedure isn’t safe for people who:

Are prone to keloid scarring
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have Inflammatory Rosacea, active Eczema or Psoriasis
Have used acne medications like Accutane or Tretinoin within the last 6 month
Are prone to burst capillaries (although these can be addressed with laser treatments)
Uncontrolled diabetes (due to limited ability to heal)
